Handley
Page HP.96
A large (c.30th scale) wooden model of a
projected Handley Page airliner, based on the
Victor bomber. Like both Avro and Vickers,
it was not surprising that Handley Page sought
to produce a trans-Atlantic airliner based on
their highly successful V-bomber. But like the
others, the actual aircraft was never
built. The model was probably made
in Handley Page's own workshops. It is
highly likely that it is the same model that was
exhibited on the company's stand at Farnborough
in 1953, as recorded in 'Flight' magazine.
When the model was obtained, it had been crudely
overpainted in RAF colours, beneath which was
discovered a professionally-applied BOAC
finish. The model has been restored to the
original finish shown in the 'Flight'
photograph. |
